I got into climbing in August of 2020 after an outdoor Top Rope session with my friend Jasper. He had been climbing for 6 years and invited me to come try climbing. It was amazing!
A week later I found myself in an outdoor store called Mec and was staring at all the cool climbing gear. I knew I had to get some.
I thought about the scrambles and tough hikes I did so I didn't hesitate. I wanted to advance my skills in the backcountry. I spent over $1500 right off the bat, including some sport and trad gear so I’d have options. There was a local climbing spot called Harrison where my skills and passion grew for climbing.
I eventually accumulated a lot of gear and at times it became a mess.
I eventually realized I needed to make an organization system that worked for me so I wouldn't lose my expensive gear.
Eventually invented the Backup Gear Rack.
I like to simplify things and make my day easier. The Backup Gear Organizer did that and more. Discovering many ways to utilize my setup. It felt satisfying to use and to hang my gear proudly.
Few years into climbing I met a new friend from the Facebook page/ Squamish partner finder.
I climbed with him, he was from Chile.
He'd seen my setup and wanted one for himself because he got used to seeing me with mine and loved the great display, ease of use and quick identification of my gear. I happened to have a spare one I made and sold him my first Backup Gear Rack.
After a few days of enjoyment he told me it was making his life easier and saving him from losing gear.
He was convinced I should get them out to the public. I got super stoked from his high energy which motivated me to help others by sharing my solution for climbers. This is the history of my creation.
I am now the Backup Brand inventor and owner. A climber who is inspired by climbing and am happy to share something with the climbing community for everyone to enjoy the way I do. Making adventures easy - Backup Gear Rack.
